The Secretary of State for Social Services and Equality, Mario Garcés, announced on Thursday that the Government has drafted a specific bill recognizing the status of a large family to single-parent households with more than one dependent child. Garcés announced this during his appearance at the Senate Health and Social Services Commission, in response to a question from the senator of the Basque Parliamentary Group Nerea Ahedo, who has asked him about the equalization of rights for single-parent families. According to Garcés, the Government has a text "already drafted" that, in the absence of being presented and agreed upon, includes the particularities of families with only one parent and at least two dependent children. "We want, because it is a political commitment, to extend the special large family regime to families with four children," he continued, "and we wanted to introduce the characteristics of single-parent families." For that reason, "in the text that we have prepared for it (it is now necessary to present it) are included single-parent families", he clarified. The same tax benefits as large families This recognition will mean that single-parent families with more than one child can benefit from the same tax benefits, reductions and bonuses at certain rates as large families. Garcés has specified that the text should be agreed and will be presented at the time "when it is decided by political initiative", although he added that the budgetary impact is already encrypted. According to INE figures, in Spain there are almost two million single-parent families, of which 1.6 million are headed by women; of them, around 53% are in poverty, indicate different NGOs such as Save the Children or Unicef. Health committed to the electoral program that in this legislature would develop a comprehensive legislative proposal to support the family, which would include regulating the concept of single-parent family. For its part, the Federation of Associations of Single Mothers and the State Network of Entities of Single-Parent Families has demanded a state-wide law that recognizes their type of family unit because, as reported in statements to Servimedia, are in "a clear situation of inequality of opportunities "with respect to the rest.
